28 September 2012. A triple header and karaoke ending in honor of Lu. I love how birthdays bring people together and best behavior.

22 April 2012. Woman on a mission today… to get to Soho early; return, exchange and explore; meet the crew for brunch before the westcoasters head off; and finally go see a movie, any movie— the hardest thing to accomplish on this island, but rainy days help BIG. Success.
“I think cinema, movies, and magic have always been closely associated. The very earliest people who made film were magicians.” ~Francis Ford Coppola

6 April 2012. Out of the office. Beautiful words on a beautiful day. First order of business, catch up over lunch with Michael — time always flies. Next, Chelsea apartment hunting — can I delegate this one. The more I get into the process, the less inspired I am to move. Alas, happy hour with my now out-of-work playmates in the east village.

27 March 2012. OGs! Din with my “original gangster” — meaning, first Amex (and really first wave NYC) friend. The two of us in an empty nondescript restaurant in an untrendy part of town for 3+ hours talking, laughing, catching up and more… no other way to describe than as an amazing breath of fresh air.

16 December 2011. Mona meets the mountain. First ski trip — an idea/”picture” I’ve been in love with forever, most likely as a result of my high consumption of TV/movies and US magazine coverage/spreads of the Sundance and Aspen Film Festivals each year. However, I fully expect to dread and be dreadful at the skiing portion of the ski trip program… and that’s precisely the case.
Love: the woods, the mountains, the pine trees, the house, the board games, and dinner table chatter.
No love for: any activity that makes me feel I as though I could lose my life or significantly harm myself in the process of.
But, it’s a new me and I’m going for it tomorrow.

11 December 2011. It’s Sunday in New York, that can only mean one thing – Brunch. Today, we’re brunching with the “extended family” of friends, which means more fun, more laughs and more reasons to love… Plus in bed at a reasonable hour for a change including playtime with America’s favorite dog.

10 December 2011. Leaving Las Vegas was among the best parts of the Las Vegas trip. My travel wife and I are on our own again and have a great time playing “Monday morning quarterback” about our trip and going out in Vegas style. Such a great time in fact, that upon arrival to JFK, we plop ourselves down at the airport Chili’s for more chatter over food and margaritas (served in fishbowls) b/c clearly the 6 hour journey back to the east coast did not suffice…
I’m so happy to be back home, especially reading words that mean more to me than any others I’ve read/heard all year.

3 December 2011. A day filled with anticipation. I run around NYC in party-primping mode, while my partner-in-partying tonight makes way back from West Coast and Arianna makes her way downtown for some pre-party dress-swapping, champers, vino & cheese at my place. Last-minute disappointing news flattens excitement level, but I roll and it’s a good time and different experience with new sweet friends.
I’m out in time to make it to my final destination before lights out.

1 December 2011. Holiday party season has officially begun. First up — Foursquare. Funtastic times, music and dance moves, but in addition, for me, mostly just a lot of happiness from the awesomeness of getting to hang with a mix of such cool, interesting friends and people all the time.
“I remember one morning getting up at dawn. There was such a sense of possibility. You know, that feeling. And I…I remember thinking to myself: So this is the beginning of happiness, this is where it starts. And of course there will always be more…never occurred to me it wasn’t the beginning. It was happiness. It was the moment, right then.” ~ Clarissa (Meryl Streep), THE HOURS

29 November 2011. An extra day off of work to “reacclimatize.” Brilliant. Making it a rule moving forward.
Excited for mystery evening plans. Excited at the very notion of a mystery evening. Happily surprised when it’s something super casually discussed a while ago — SLEEP NO MORE. An unforgettable experience and night.

17 November 2011. Another day, another Amex UNSTAGED Livestream to be moderated — this one kicking off at the obnoxious hour of 11pmET, BUT we make a night of it. Team UNSTAGED “hits” Tribeca’s finest, Laconda Verde (and Sarabeth) for dinner and non-code-of-conduct-conversation then head to a swanky Mission Control room.

10 November 2011. A very typical good day - usual mix of productiveness & unproductiveness.
Starting with: busy, but cool day at work then off to meet friends for drinks.
From there it’s all: gossiping, people-watching, updating, chair-dancing, laughing, and posing for pics, plus breaks for text messaging with all of the other people out doing the same.
Finally it’s: “check please!” and cab calculus (to determinine who makes sense to share a cabs with based on directions we’re all headed in.)
Got me thinking about something mentioned earlier in the week and whether I should be thinking about that instead of auto-dismissing. I decided to sleep on it.

3 November 2011. In the “plus one” spot at a good friend’s birthday dinner. A fun, loud, laughter-filled night.
“There was bread as we needed it, water, more wine. The food was simple and elegant. Nothing was wrong. Everything was right. It would have been nice if it could have gone on forever.”
~ Sam Sifton, New York Times food critic.

2 November 2011. Dinner at Duo with my very kind “roadie,” after helping me help James “decorate” for Veronica’s birthday party. Great times — convo, laughs and more — as usual. Talking about the randomness of how our NYC friends and circles formed makes me think of this scene from 21 Grams. Of course, I butchered it trying to explain it.
PAUL: I’m sorry. I guess I try to tell them that numbers are a door to understanding a mystery that’s bigger than us. How two people, strangers, come to meet. There’s a poem by a Venezuelan writer that begins…”The Earth turned to bring us closer. It turned on itself and in us until it finally brought us together in this dream.”
CRISTINA: That’s beautiful.
PAUL: There’s so many things that have to happen for two people to meet and… Anyway, that’s … that’s what mathematics are.
~ 21 Grams
